Il 2008, secondo anno del progetto Arte Contemporanea a Villa Pisani, coincide con il V Centenario della nascita del grande architetto Andrea Palladio. Se lo scorso anno abbiamo accostato con grande soddisfazione Villa Pisani, storico edificio di Palladio, all’arte nitida degli artisti Nelio Sonego e Michel Verjux, quest’anno sentiamo che la nostra personale celebrazione palladiana non avrebbe potuto avere migliori interpreti dei due maestri Igino Legnaghi e François Morellet, che hanno accettato di confrontarsi con questi luoghi.
François Morellet ha scelto la loggia come luogo ove creare l’opera dialogante con questa casa e ha pensato di esporre opere, nel salone centrale e negli spazi sottostanti, che dialogano con l’architettura generando una nuova percezione degli spazi.
Con entusiasmo proseguiamo questa avventura che ci arricchisce di pensieri positivi e sempre più avvicina all’arte contemporanea persone e giovani che la scoprono con sorpresa visitando un luogo che pensano legato solo al passato. Ringraziamo tutti coloro che hanno collaborato alla realizzazione di queste iniziative e in modo particolare il Prof. Luca Massimo Barbero che con questo progetto rende ancor più viva la nostra casa.

The second year of the Arte Contemporanea a Villa Pisani project, 2008 coincides
with the five hundredth anniversary of the birth of the great architect Andrea Palladio.
While last year we had the pleasure of displaying works by the artists Nelio Sonego and Michel Verjux at the Villa Pisani, which was designed by Palladio, this year we felt that our personal celebration of the event could not feature better artists than Igino Legnaghi and François Morellet, who have both agreed to design works specifically for this venue. François Morellet has chosen to create a work in the loggia that engages in a dialogue with the house and has decided to exhibit works in the central hall and the spaces below this that relate to the architecture, generating a new perception of the spaces.
It is with great enthusiasm that we continue this venture that is both an enriching experience for us and brings contemporary art to the attention of people of all ages, who discover it with surprise when visiting a place they believe to be linked exclusively to the past. We would like to thank all those who have helped to make this event possible, especially Professor Luca Massimo Barbero, who, thanks to this project, has infused our house with renewed vibrancy.

La costellazione del contemporaneo
Talvolta le istanze storiche possono diventare circostanze di congiunzioni artistiche.
La presenza di François Morellet con opere pensate per Villa Pisani rispecchia questa curiosa condizione e meravigliosa fatalità: il V centenario della nascita di Andrea Palladio vede un omaggio vitale e propositivo di un artista contemporaneo, che tanto più fa risuonare le grandi qualità della storia attraverso la tensione propositiva e progettuale dell’arte contemporanea.
In questo territorio, si sta costituendo da alcuni anni con grande serietà, in modo non eclatante e spettacolare, una sorta di virtuoso laboratorio sperimentale, avviato attraverso il progetto di formazione di C4 Centro Cultura Contemporaneo Caldogno, e sono particolarmente lieto che dal 2007 anche a Villa Pisani si siano verificate le condizioni per ampliare questa rete propositiva. Quest’anno, il Veneto celebra se stesso attraverso la storia e le grandi qualità dell’architetto che lo ha segnato con tratti distintivi precisi, consegnati alla civiltà: Palladio stesso ci ha costruito e indicato un percorso, una mappa fatta di punti di eccellenza che dobbiamo semplicemente unire attraverso la continuità di una fruizione creativa.
A Villa Pisani c’è l’inizio di una prima curiosa “rete del contemporaneo” che abbiamo voluto costruire con C4 Network in luoghi ed architetture significative della Regione. Non solo questa mostra è quindi preludio alle celebrazioni del grande architetto che troveranno il loro momento centrale in autunno, ma anche segno tangibile di un network che vedrà restituito al patrimonio comune il sintomatico e suggestivo Bunker di C4 a Caldogno, e avrà il concorso di Castelfranco Veneto Città d’Arte. Contemporanea e Villa Da Porto a Montorso Vicentino, con una connotazione più legata alle arti performative.
Ecco allora che sembra delinearsi la mappa felice di una contemporaneità che non insegue contenitori di nuova quanto eccelsa fattura, ma che si innesta pienamente e in un modo attivo in una costellazione che Palladio e le ville cresciute sulla sua via ed esempio vedono già tracciata sull’intero territorio veneto. In questa occasione, preme sottolineare da un lato la lungimiranza della Regione nel riconoscere l’esigenza e nel perseguire con il suo sostegno la formazione di un nuovo pubblico, dall’altro come sia il privato l’importantissimo elemento fondativo e connotante il Nord Est: un privato che crede e investe nel proprio territorio, nella sua storia, nel suo presente, nel suo futuro. Un privato di cui Villa Pisani è esempio primo e luminoso.
Prosegue così il progetto Arte Contemporanea a Villa Pisani avviato lo scorso Lamentable blanc, 2008, neon bianco, 640x400x200 cm 15 anno, che prevede un programma di mostre di artisti contemporanei, invitati da Francesca Pola a realizzare opere in stretta relazione con gli spazi e l’identità autentica dello splendido edificio palladiano. In questa idea di architettura che rinasce e fa vivere e interrogare, la mostra di François Morellet propone un percorso che dal grande salone centrale, alla grande loggia, alle cantine, con le sue luminose installazioni di segni in neon rivive e attualizza il significato formale e spaziale di Villa Pisani permettendo una esperienza nuova della sua purissima architettura e identità palladiana.

The Constellation of the Contemporary Network
Sometimes historic dates can become circumstances for artistic encounters. The presence of François Morellet with works specifically designed for the Villa Pisani reflects this curious condition and wonderful opportunity: the five hundredth anniversary of the birth of Andrea Palladio sees the vital and proactive tribute of a contemporary artist, who allows the great virtues of history to resonate through the constructive tension of contemporary art.
In this field, for some years now a sort of experimental workshop has been developed with great competence in a restrained and unspectacular manner though the training programme of the C4 Centro Cultura Contemporaneo Caldogno, and I am particularly happy that, since 2007, the right conditions for expanding this proactive network have been created in the Villa Pisani too. This year the Veneto celebrates itself through the story and great merits of the architect who left his very distinctive mark on the region, at the same time making a major contribution to European culture. Palladio himself constructed and indicated a path, a map dotted with points of excellence that we must simply join together through the continuity of their creative use. At the Villa Pisani there is the beginning of a curious ‘network of the contemporary world’ that we have sought to build with the C4 Network in places and important architectural works in the region. Not only is this exhibition a prelude to the celebrations of the fifth centenary of the great architect’s birth, the central moment of which will be in the autumn, but it is also a tangible sign of a network that will allow the fascinating C4 Bunker in the park of the Villa Caldogno to be available for use, with the contribution of Castelfranco Veneto Città d’Arte. Contemporanea, and the Villa Da Porto at Montorso Vicentino, which is linked to the performing arts.
Thus the felicitous map of a contemporary world that does not seek new, exquisitelymade containers of a new and spectacular design, but is fully and actively inserted into a constellation that Palladio and the Villas built in his style have marked out all over the Veneto.
On this occasion, attention must be drawn, on the one hand, to the far-sightedness of the government of the region, which has recognized the need for this and has continued its support for the education of a new public, and, on the other hand, the importance of the private sector in the North-East, which believes in investing locally, in its own history and also in its present and future. Indeed, the Villa Pisani is a shining example of the initiative of the private sector in this part of Italy.
17 Thus continues the Arte Contemporanea a Villa Pisani (Contemporary Art at the Villa Pisani) project, which envisages a programme of exhibitions devoted to contemporary artists who have been invited by Francesca Pola to create works closely related to the spaces and the true identity of the splendid building designed by Palladio. In the context of architecture that is reborn, allowing it to live once again, the exhibition by François Morellet proposes a journey from the central hall to the large loggia and the cellars that, thanks to his installations of neon lights, revives and gives relevancy to the forms and spaces of the Villa Pisani, offering visitors a new vision of the building’s pure Palladian architecture.
